What this is
Virtual Arnold lets you hold a conversation with Arnold Schoenberg (1874–1951) — composer, teacher, painter, and inventor of the twelve-tone method. You ask a question, typed or spoken aloud, and he answers in his own voice. His answers draw on his letters, writings, and documents, and every answer lists its sources, each linked to the passage it drew on.
How to use it
Type a question — or tap the 🎤 microphone and simply speak; your question sends by itself when you pause (or tap the 🎤 again). While Arnold is talking you may interrupt him: tap the 🎤 and say "stop", "continue", or just ask your next question. Every finished answer gets its own player bar, so you can replay it, jump to any point, download the audio, or copy the transcript.
Why he sometimes speaks only the beginning of an answer
In conversational mode his answers are short and spoken in full. The in depth and neutral modes give long written answers with their sources; to keep the conversation moving, the voice speaks the first part, and the complete text always appears on screen for reading. To hear a long answer read out entirely, choose "Speak everything" in Settings before asking.
The voice
The voice you hear is not an actor and not an invention. It is a voice clone created from real audio recordings of Arnold Schoenberg speaking. Two recreations are offered — one built with ElevenLabs, the other with Cartesia — and you can switch between them with the voice selector at the top of the page. Because the historical recordings differ in quality and character — different years, occasions, and recording conditions — the cloned voice can vary somewhat from answer to answer. That variability is, in its way, authentic: it reflects the real surviving traces of his voice.
